EFSMA 6th. European Sports Medicine Congress finished on the 17th October 2009 in Antalya with great success.  Congress was hosted by Turkish Sports Medicine Association.

The Congress covered a wide range of problems and issues that are related to medicine and sport.

All the scheduled events featured active involvement and attendance that highlighted the importance of the topics selected by the congress organizers. According to the organizational committee, over 600 people from 52 countries participated, the highest number ever in European Congresses.

During the Congress, 87 oral and 276 poster (in total 363) studies were presented. 6 keynote lectures were given by internationally known experts and over 100 invited speakers presented 120 talks. In addition to the general program 13 workshops, handling practical aspects of sports medicine, were attended by the participants.

A Young Investigators Award scheme took part and 4 candidates from 138 applicants received DON-JOY and BAYER awards;

An IOC Advanced Sports Medicine Course and a FIMS Team Physician Development Course were organized on 13-14 October 2009.

The exhibition gathered over 25 participating companies from several countries.

Council of Delegates gathered on the 16th.October 2009 at 14.00 and new Executive Committee were selected. Delegates wished success the newly formed Committee for the next term (2009-2013).

Congress participants enjoyed “Harem” a special balet performance by Antalya State Ballet Company on the 15th October 2009 and Gala Dinner on the 17th. October 2009.

The next Congress will be organized by Austrian Sports Medicine Association in 2011 in Salzburg.
