The UCT/MRC Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM), University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Health Sciences, South Africa, is proudly hosting this conference.  This will be the third biennial Clinical Sports Medicine Conference hosted by ESSM.  Partners in the hosting of this conference include the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA), the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee of South Africa and F-MARC, South African Rugby Medical Association (SARMA) and the Biokinetics Association of South Africa (BASA).

The focus of this conference will be Novel concepts in Sports Medicine, emphasising novel concepts in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of (1) injuries related to physical activity; (2) medical conditions that athletes suffer from; (3) patients with established chronic diseases or potential risk factors for chronic diseases.

The programme will include current trends and recent updates of medical, nutrition, and psychological care of athletes, as well as the latest scientific aspects of training.

Local and international experts in the field will participate in the plenary sessions, lectures, and free communications.  Practical demonstrations of techniques, as well as “hands on” clinical workshops, will be presented to familiarize delegates with these novel clinical techniques.  For the first time, free presentation sessions will form part of the programme to enable delegates to share novel concepts in Sports Medicine from their own research and experience.

This is expected to be an exciting and informative conference.  There will also be an exhibition area, planned social functions, a fun physical activity, and an optional conference dinner.

The conference will be CPD accredited.
